HBO Europe develops and produces its own award-winning original programming documentaries and comedy, and is producing local language drama series from successful established formats.

We strive to document the fascinating and diverse world that was beyond the Iron Curtain; closed to the rest of the world for fifty years and still coming to terms with years of oppression; stories about gypsy policemen, prizefighters, virtuoso musicians and undertakers; fetishists and beauty contests, pornographers and disabled lovers.

Documentary programming has been made in Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Bulgaria, often winning international awards for content and direction. In 2010 HBO Romania received an Emmy, one of the highest TV accolades, for “The World According to Ion B”, the story of the international success of a homeless Romanian artist.
